...unwrapping the Secrets of the Belly Wrap
So what exactly is a Post Pregnancy Belly Wrap?
A Belly Wrap is something that women all over the world have been using for centuries to help with their recovery after birth, specifically within the first six weeks. Belly Wraps help flatten and firm a new mums tummy, redefine their waistline, reduce the appearance of stretch marks, reduce bloating caused by water retention in the abdominal area, assist with the repositioning and shrinking of the uterus and to help improve their posture and support their core.

Why is the best time to use the Belly Wrap within the first 6 weeks post pregnancy?
After the birth of a baby, a woman’s body goes through a significant recovery and healing process. In the six weeks following the birth, whether the birth is natural or by cesarean, the body attempts to go back to its former self. Belly Wraps have been used for centuries and by women all over world to help shrink and reposition their uterus after birth, as well as to reduce bloating in the abdominal area caused by water retention. Belly Wraps are also used to provide additional support to the abdominal area and core muscles to help improve posture and reduce strain in the lower back.
But in saying that, the Belly Wrap can most definitely be worn well after the first six weeks, or in fact can be worn by those who are not pregnant at all, but the results will not be as obvious.
Can I use a Belly Wrap if I have had a Caesarian delivery?
Feel free to check in with your Obstetrician, but yes, most definitely! The Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap encourages your tummy to remember how it was pre preggie, as well as supporting your core muscles and your overall posture, so there is no reason why you cannot use the Belly Wrap – your body is still going through the healing and recovery process and your uterus still needs to shrink!
How tight should I wear the Wrap?
Well, this is where common sense comes into play. Wearing the Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap should help with your recovery, not hinder it! So although you should wear the wrap firmly for maximum results, it still needs to be comfortable. You should still be able to easily move about and sit whilst wearing it. If the wrap doesn’t feel comfortable and it feels too tight, then please loosen it – you should find after a couple of days of wearing the Wrap at its optimal firmness that it will feel like a second skin.
When should I start using it?
We recommend that you begin using the Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap within 24-48 hours after birth of your baby, but this is totally up to you. As a first time mum you may still be coming to terms with the experience of labour and meeting your new baby that it may take you a few days longer to feel ready to use the Wrap, but for second, third, and forth time mothers… you will probably be pulling out the Wrap the first instant that you can given the benefits that it gave you the last time you used it!
When should I wear my Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap?
You can wear your Belly Wrap all day long and you can even sleep with it if you like.
Wont everyone know that I am wearing it?
No way!! That is the great thing about the Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap, it contours to the shape of your body and is lightweight and discrete that no one will know you are wearing it – that is unless you want to show it off!! You can wear it underneath your skirts, dresses and pants, just like a second skin.
Can I wear my Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap whilst I am pregnant?
One word, NO! One of the greatest things about being pregnant is that you can embrace your growing tummy!! Please do not use any abdominal binds whilst you are pregnant; the Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap is not intended for you to use it in this way.
How do I know what size Belly Wrap is right for me?
As we all know, women come in all different shapes and sizes. The great thing about our Wraps is that it is made out of a polyester/lyrca blend, so it will stretch and mould to your body and with the generous Velcro strip, you can adjust it as your tummy shrinks allowing you to continue to use the Wrap as your body slims down.
The best way to decide on which Vespa & The Ladybird Belly Wrap size is right for you is to measure your tummy at around your 8th month pregnancy mark – as this will give you a good guide as to the size your belly will be just after your baby is born.
In helping you choose the perfect size Belly Wrap for you, or for someone else as a gift, we have put together the following guide.
There are three sizes to choose from:

If you feel that you are right on the cusp of two sizes, you can choose to either wait until you can fit into the smaller size or purchase a wrap in each size for maximum results. |

Who is Vespa & The Ladybird?
Vespa & The Ladybird is a locally owned and run online store that manufactures and sells the Vespa & The Ladybird Post Pregnancy Belly Wraps.
Just prior to the birth of her first child, Kim Vespa stumbled on to the ancient practice of post pregnancy belly binding and after much research she discovered that belly wraps were used by women all over the world - from Eastern to Western cultures and everything in between - and even in Hollywood with the likes of Gwen Stefani and Jessica Alba swearing by them, but yet Belly Wraps were not readily available or widely known in Australia.
Kim tried to source a wrap for her to use post pregnancy and was astonished to find that the only way she could buy one was from the United States, and had to wait for over a fortnight for delivery. Kim was even more astonished when the shipping of the wrap cost more than the wrap itself! Still intrigued by the concept and now amazed that these wraps were not readily available within Australia, Kim purchased one from the USA and was absolutely thrilled with not only just how quickly she regained her pre preggie belly, but the back and posture support that she received from using the wrap.
After Kim's positive experience using a post pregnancy belly wrap herself and her understanding of its rich history and wide reaching following she was convinced that the women of Australia were missing out! It was then that she set out to design and manufacture her own line of Belly Wraps - making them accessible and affordable to all new mothers and allowing them to experience the benefits that she had experienced, and thus Vespa & The Ladybird was born.
